Malaysian Censorship in Books
Ogilvy, a huge advertisment company spread around all over the world. In Malaysia they are doing the advertisments for Nokia, Guiness and many more. In the MPH bookshop in Midvalley Malaysia I came accross one of the Ogilvy books. I flipped through and some pictures jumped into my eyes.
The pictures where some of the Fa commercials which where shown in Europe. (Fa is a shower gel) I rembered that in those commercial always the naked breasts of a women was shown. So was on those pictures in the book. But there was some blue color on it. Somebody took a blue felt pen and draw over all the pictures where the breast would have ben visible. I checked some of the other books as well. In all the Ogilvy books the same thing was the case.

super - i found this blog! thanks for the xmas virtual email pc card - w
while this SEEMS to be censorship, i think in reality it is just pubescent nonsense of some functionaries. - - after all, there is at least (!) one person having to spend days looking at least (!) at breast nipples and targeting them with a pencil. think about it! that can severely distort a person! while that'd be nice for maybe some days, it will have a bad effect later. any government that forces their people to submit at least, say 1 man or woman out of 100'000 for breast and genital marking, should definitely be reported. that CAN'T be healthy. = w.
Usually Malaysian censorship board will just remove these kind of advertisements from the books. At least that's what I thought they do. But in this case, whoever did it, used just a felt tip pen. Hmmmm... And the health magazines I subscribe from US comes with missing pages just because there are half naked images in it.... sigh....
The censorship in malaysia to me seems to assume an average age of 7 of thereabouts, children who must be screened from even the mildest expletives. This is not 1957. We have the internet and other means of communication with the rest of the world. And the hypocracy-blacking out pictures of someone with a cigarette in foreign newspapers whilst in supermarkets cigarettes are in your face! Special promotion! Grow up, Malaysia.
